Bimbisaru is the ruler of the Magatha Empire of the 5th century BC. Sunil Dutt played the role of Ajatasatru in Vyjayanthimala starrer "Amrapali" in Hindi. The father of that enemy was Bimbisara. That is history.
Looking at the title, if you think that this is a historical film, you would be wrong. That has nothing to do with this movie. This title is given because it sounds good and the historical name is catchy. To put it simply, Rajamouli's RRR is as much related to Alluri Sitaramaraj and Komuram Bheem.
Looking at the trailer, many people felt that it was an imitation of Magadhirani and Baahubali. Even so, there was no one who wanted Kalyan Ram to be rewarded for his hard work.
So let's tell what it is and how it is.
In the 5th century BC, Bimbisara, the most powerful ruler of the Trigarth Empire, expanded the kingdom by conquest, persecuted those who turned against him, and killed innocent people for petty reasons if he did not like it. His routine is to pass the time with alcohol and booze.
Meanwhile, a vertical mirror called Mayadarpanam comes into the story. It has the power to connect times. Bimbisaru did not know that.
On one occasion this Bimbisara, like an anthropomorphic demon, defies even the divine. He says that there is no power in creation to subjugate him. Madameka kills a small child.
After that, one of those Bimbisara one by one falls into that illusion and falls into our time.
From there the hardships he faces in this new era and the change that takes place in him is the rest of the story.
The point in this story seems new but the point and the story are all inspired by various movies.
"Magadheera" can be remembered as a story between the days of kings and the present. It has Ayyappa Sharma as Rao Ramesh in it. Like the villain there, he is called the villain here in the present tense. But the Magadhira concept of reincarnation. This is not so.
The concept of a person from one era traveling to another was popularized in the German web series "Dark". In this series, humans travel through a tunnel into different eras. The Nigerian movie "Day of Destiny" came with a similar idea. In it, characters travel from one era to another through a magician. Also in this the main character travels between times through Mayadarpanam.
Baahubali's inspiration can be seen in every step. There are many moments reminiscent of Baahubali like the camera angle placed near the feet of Kalyan Ram as Bimbisara, when he walks into the hall, suddenly beheading a character with a knife, and finally sitting down and dying. But Kalyan Ram's character starts as Bhallaladeva's character and ends up as Amarendra's Baahubali.
An episode of a town called Dhanvantharipuram comes in one place. But for a moment, I remembered the footsteps of "Acharya" and got confused. But in the meantime, the story turned into a track instead of going in that direction.
Similarly, in the movies "Yamagola" and "Yamalila", it seems that such scenes are repeated in this movie as well, when Yama and Chitragupta come to earth.
Although it seems good in terms of point, it shows no originality either in the treatment or in conceiving the scenes. If there are scenes like the big movies that you have already seen, you will feel like a fox is afraid of a tiger, but it will not be amazing.
Technically well shot. Graphics are cheap in some places but good in many places. The background music is impressive.
The songs are not memorable and memorable. But the song "Ishvarude Uyadu Kota Garadi.." is impressive when seen in context. The editing of the song is also good. "Beauty of Gulebakavali..." sounds like an old style orchestra.
In the first half, the scenes change on the screen for a long time, but there is no emotion. Slowly the story becomes emotional when the interval comes to the bang. The second half is not too predictable and the parallel worlds type of parallel time scenes are new. But these have some similarities with the recently released "Play Back".
The idea of thinking new and making a multiple genre film should be appreciated. But it would have been a great movie if the script had been worked on and more focus had been put on the scene design and dialogues. There is also a lack of variety in the fights. The lack of emotion is visible in the action choreography as each person punches the wall repeatedly.
Kalyan Ram can appreciate the hard work. He also showed a nice variety in dual roles. But here and there it seemed to be louder than necessary. Although Catherine is fat, she fits the role. Ayyappa Sharma is ok. All the other actors seemed to be good in their roles but did not shine. If we keep in mind the current standards in terms of direction, it should be said that it is general. While working on such films, there are still many aspects that need to be taken care of. However, this is a film that does not disappoint.
No matter how you look at it, the main minus is the lack of originality in many scenes. Somehow the sequel was hinted at in the last scene, so there is a need to take more care in it.
